If you were building a house; but you were only allowed one material what would be it?
Rigid Foam insulation was invented in 1960. I would argue that its the insulation that is the meat of it. SIP Panels or (Structural Insulation Panels) are not a proprietary product; they are just a concept and they even predate insulation. In the 1930s the US Dep of Agriculture developed SSPs of (Stress Skin Panels) with high rigidity veneers as the skin and and the body of the material was a lower density composite of chip and sawdust, cardboard, straw and most interestingly fibreglass. Once ridgid insulation was invented - the meat in this timber sandwich became polyurethane, polyisocyanurate, or graphite polystyrene.
Lightweight
Impervious to moisture
Paintable
Doesnt expand and contract.
Rotproof
Workable
but its UV degrading, needs epoxy (fibreglass)
Heavy
Pervious to moisture
Not paintable, not really
Expands and contracts causing cracks.
Rotprone
Unworkable
As you can see; PIR has all these benefits; and then OSB takes all these benefits away. SUPER - conserves all the brilliant benefits of PIR; we reinforce the outside shell with the thinnest amount of fibreglass or kevlar. The shell is strong in compression and the steel inserts are strong in tension. Just like reinforced concrete. Further; the structural shell replaced the need for any cladding. Tbhe final shell replaces any need for waterproofing. The final shell is very thin; so from a little amount of material; we forgo the need for steel I beams and thick structural timbers.
Less is more; and we pass the savings on to you.
LETS JUST MAKE THE FOAM STRONGER.
IT'S LESS ABOUT PRICE PER M2
When the 'garden room' has no insulation and a wall thickness of 12mm (half an inch)
it is not a 'garden room' its just a garden shed.
IT'S MORE ABOUT PRICE PER mm of THICKNESS
Between £7.50 and £16.00 per mm of wall thickness. Always 200mm of insulation
Between £200 and £300 per m2.
No deceptive 'base price' or 'starting from' - we did the analysis on the competitors so you don't have to. Compare garden sheds to garden rooms, to garden igloos here.
