BROTHER is a safe space for fleeing from domestic violence 24/7 - and risk reduction for rough sleeping.

If you agree to sponsor your local homeless community; we agree to leave a free Garden IGLOO; in your garden - you can use it whenever you like; but once in a while someone in your community will need to instead. You will be contacted by us; and will be asked to allow a rough sleeper or a victim of domestic violence to use the IGLOO for temporary shelter. You do not have to do anything for the individual other than letting them be.

As a safe guarding policy; you must be a woman to be a sponsor women: and to sponsor men, you are required to have two men in the household between the ages of 18-55 with no mobility issues.

HOW IT WORKS

When people come to us claiming homelessness they join the waiting list for a BROTHER igloo - and we sign an agreement. This ensures that we can remove them from our the ESKIMO database for violation of the agreement.

IGLOO is made from foam; so its mostly air -we move one into a garden of a sponsor; and remove it if the sponsor persistently refuses access to beneficiaries or violates any of the terms of sponsorship.

IGLOO is highly insulated and reflects the IR heat radiation; it is warmer, dryer, safer than a tent; and more importantly is legal. Most people who sleep rough do not sleep rough the next night. IGLOO ensures that the one night they do sleep rough they do so as safely as possible.

The benefactors and beneficiaries are not expected to help each other in any other way; however we do require the benefactors to allow the beneficiaries access to post. This way we can remove all the barriers stopping homeless people from getting housing - ID cards; bank accounts; even benefits are not available to people who do not have an address.

We claim ownership of the IGLOO; it is just a perpetual £0 a month lease. This way we are liable for any legal issues at any point; whether it is a planning policy problem or a insurance issue or if criminal or tort law needs to be addressed - We deal with all that so you don't have to .

11% of people who rough sleep die from the cold; and 62% of all female homicides were at the hands of their partners and quite literally, choking to death is the main cause of death in these cases.

Nearly all where technically homeless and unable to easily leave due to not having their name of the deeds or the tenancy.

A BROTHER igloo is a reinvention of a Scottish Bothy; an freely accessible hut for shelter from the storm for the little while it takes to pass. Benefactors can help the beneficiaries with contacts, advice, and whatever else they think is fair. Benefactors are not housing anyone; nor does the beneficiary have any protection against eviction. BROTHER igloo is for people in Yorkshire to help each other out - the old fashioned way.

When we have benefactors, but no beneficiaries.

We use AI and local knowlegde to find rough sleeping hot spots; and build WOLF igloo there; All Garden Igloo customers are charged a 20% surcharge in lieu of a VAT charge. This is because insulation installation is zero rated for VAT; and has been since 2022 - in many ways IGLOO is a response to this tax incentive.

Finding rough sleeping hotspots is not hard; because sadly finding beggars who rough sleep persistently isn't hard.

The igloos are fully recyclable and we are working on getting them to be constructed form 100% recycled XPS. When people hear "styrofoam" they assume its the stuff that comes in the box when they order a TV; it is estimated that one third landfill is EPS. - XPS on the other hand can be recycled. We use it because it is waterproof.

WOLF igloo is for Warm Outdoor Living Fast; we are especially focused on this effort during the winter; It is based on a redesign of the French sister project IGLOU; with more focus on security. The inside of the WOLF igloo is Mylar® and we are working towards making a fully impact proof version out of Kevlar®.

The body heat is held inside the WOLF igloo by the thick foam walls and floor; and the Mylar reflect the heat radiation back to a central line in running through the middle; of course in a inverse of the distance so WOLF igloo is the best performing igloo form a heat retention standpoint; however the bigger and more usable we make the igloo the less we feel this effect. Garden IGLOO users are expected to us technology in their igloo which will increase the igloos ability to self heat.

When we have beneficiaries, but no benefactors.

We use AI and local knowledge to find long term empty and abandoned locations; and then we defend our right to do this against this using volunteers members who have been invited to join the CIC due to their professional qualifications in housing and property law.

This is perfectly legal; as long as the land is not being worked. Land is only owned by the owner when it is being utlisized. After a year of non use; it is just the wilderness again. There are legal protections in place such as the Unauthorised Encampments Act of 1994; but this was updated in 2022 and only refers to banning the use of vehicles. Gypsy and traveller culture is protected under these new amendments with the caveat that this culture does not drive cars or towing caravans onto the site.

Further; squatting on commercial land is legal whereas residential squatting is criminal; however stealing the use of utilities is always illegal in any case. Project PENGUIN never needs anything other than human power to build or to use.

IGLOO CIC is the tip of the iceberg; Vinay has been working independently for over a decade spreading the message about 100% insulation shelter - Tom is the Architect & QS that has moved Hexayurt forwards into a Buy one - Donate one model. Inna; pictured here has been working on passive buildings for the past 10 years; but it is Hinton and Valdemar who have really accelerated this movement in the past few years.

Hinton has used AI to do many ground breaking things; firstly Urban Exploring Groups, websites and other open source intelligence has been scraped for location information to geolocate long term abandoned plots; and since 2024 Valdemar has been writing to lawyers who represent these locations claiming occupancy rights; and pasting Section 7 notices on the doors of these sites. There is always enough land near by; and running water too.

On the left we have mapped out these locations; that have been claimed for over a year; many more will be added any day now. Section 77; Section 61 are the only avenues left to these land owners should they seek to remove the igloo or the beneficiary. These cannot be ordered by the land owner; only the police with and emergency reason or the local councillor with good reason can issue these orders on behalf of the land owner.

Section 55 is the usual course of action; and we have faith that this would not we a legal avenue unavailable to land owner; as the land owner has been made aware for years now that these are sites we intent to use as emergency postal addresses for rough sleepers and victims of domestic violence.

The bigger the better.

This is R6A; a rotunda igloo; with a low door of 1200mm. This design is 14.95m2; only just with in the maximum permitted development area; if it is over 15m2 you would have to get planning permission. The first MAMA igloo is of the same design; just thicker. We like it best because there are zero off cuts.

And its big too; as big as it can be without PP. This means your back garden needs to be 30m2; without any extension; or more than 30m2 if there are extentions. But don't worry we will measure this up for you.

All BROTHER igloos are always at least 25mm; but we like to build much thicker; with 200mm the igloos can support themselves without guide ropes - Garden IGLOOs of this size are 300mm thick.
