Homeless children and their households are https://www.gov.uk/guidance/operating-principles-for-night-shelters
More children are homeless in the UK than ever.
There was 140,790 households who were homeless with children in 2022. About the same amount as a small city like Grimsby, Canterbury or York. These families are given 'priority need' status and are usually offered 'temporary housing'; however the time between correctly claiming a 'prevention duty' and moving into a B&B or Hostel; can be between 6 weeks and 16 weeks. The length varies greatly due to time of year and location of council.
Disabled people are more likely to find themselves homeless and sleeping rough. (source)
Autistic Traits Among the Sample:
103 native UK individual were screened with a 13 positive for autism: (12.3%, with a 95% confidence interval of 7.0–20.4).
Marginal traits (autistic traits but not meeting full DSM-5 criteria): 9 individuals (8.5%, with a 95% confidence interval of 4.5–15.3).
Those with elevated autistic traits were more likely to be socially isolated. They were less likely to use substances compared to those without elevated autistic traits.
The study provides preliminary evidence that autistic traits are over-represented among homeless people. This highlights the need for further systematic research on the topic.
The ESKIMO database uses 'Enhanced' web scraping techniques using the same codes and scripts AI uses to train its chatbot models. Autisim and other special learning difficulties can lead to isolation; and risk of homelessness and rough sleeping.
The ESKIMO database is a massive database of direct emails and phone numbers to people of 'vital' importance; and provided to homeless people and rough sleepers in line with a much neglected caveat of the Data Protection Act which allows processing of data for 'vital interest'.
Together we shelter; join the ESKIMO database by applying for any of the funding pathways; PAPA (tax releif) - MAMA (sustainability grants), CHILD (SpLD related private foundation funding), or GRANDMA (disability and age related funding) - Or click here and provide 'vital' data here without applying for funding.

People who have been convicted cannot claim social housing, This is a deterrent against crime. However; once someone has a criminal record - the deterrent no longer exists. 13% of people who have completed their sentences today; will sleep on the street tonight (source). These people have served their sentences. Is it not an additional punishment to force them onto the street. Around 800 people released from prison per month will be sleeping rough after being released; in total 4,000 people will sleep rough on any given night; this figure is a rolling average with arrests and rereleases balancing out the figure.
According to the Statute of Merton in 1232 "the lord of the fee" or land owners must allow commoners enough land for "piscary, tuscary and pannage" or fishing, firewood collecting and hunting boar" - yet we do not allow convicts any land other than the pavement in modern society. The prisoner is punished in perpetuity; in a way that is more harsh than it was in the Medieval period - and if we are so minded to say that overdose is a type of suicide, and pushing someone into committing suicide is a type of execution we could say that the prison system has no abolished capital punishment; not really.
Prisoners and Homelessness.
The reoffending rate among prisoners is higher when they have no place to live on their return to society.
In probation housing the recidivism rate is 1 person out of 3
In secure housing the recidivism rate is 1 person out of 4
In no secure housing the rate is 2 people out of 3 (it may be higher than this; as rough sleepers move around often and are harder to track down) - (source)
The average recidivism rate in the UK is 3 people out of 4 in a 9 year period. However in the first year the rate is 1 people out of 2 which accounts for most of the 9 year figure.
We all know that crime causes crime; and hurt people hurt people. Yet it is clear that lack of secure housing causes crime and crime causes insecure housing; and this is a vicious circle.
For the sake of a thought experiment, imagine you were walking down the street and you saw your best friend from primary school there sitting in a sleeping bag cross legged asking for change. Would you offer her help? I assume you would; you would not just hand her some coppers you would actually offer her a place to sleep tonight. There are more than these two options
To honour the beggars wishes and put some coins in a paper cup.
Or walk on - not making eye contact - a slight shake of the head and then convince ourselves it is just a drug addict looking for a fix, they have a place to go anyway and it is a kindness to refuse to help.
Would it be a kindness to refuse to help a rough sleeping drug addict who asked; "Got any spare space mate?" - of course you don't trust like that; and I don't blame you - but; what if you had a Garden Office? See Project WALRUS for a free 25mm STREET IGLOO; paid for by GARDEN IGLOO.
Families cause rough sleeping.
Being "held in custody" does not necessarily mean you are guilty; or have been convicted or even charged. This figure includes people who were held for 24 hours at the police station; questioned and then released.
There is no data to support why people choose to sleep rough. One source (here) says "you are cleaner on the streets".
There is no data to support why families forcefully evict their own family, or why they are kicked out by their partners. Landlords do not allow subletting; yet people do and some of these people use their secure tenure status, and their family members and partners homelessness status as tools of abuse and control. See GRANDMA, MAMA, to build a permeant Garden Igloo at your property. See PAPA, CHILD and SIBLING to build a temporary portable Garden Igloo for you and your family.
The private rental market is not for everyone; and it is no use saying landlords need to do more; a landlord simply trusts or does not trust someone with their house - and not everybody can afford to live in a house. The price of building a house on material and labour; excluding land is roughly £125,000; before 2004 squatting was not a criminal act, and before 1994 being a Gypsy or Traveller was not a criminal act. At some point or another we have to approach things quite starkly and realise that the housing market is not for everybody; but land is.
With a housing system that requires everybody to have an address of their own; it is no wonder that housing seem unaffordable to renter, buyers, and even landlords and central governments and councils too. See Project PENGUIN if you, or someone you know has no other options and wants to legally squat with AI assisted legal aid that has been trained by pro bobo lawyers. Only as a matter of last resort.
Most people who claim they are homeless are indeed claiming correctly.
Being "owed a homelessness duty" or a "prevention duty" - means your council has a legal obligation under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 to provide assistance to individuals or households who meet certain criteria regarding their housing situation.
Being deemed homeless means you are owed temporary housing; you do not need to be of 'priority need' and or rough sleeping to be owned a duty. You need to be without secure tenancy and therefore at risk of rough sleeping.
This can include staying temporarily with family and friends; and for 'priority need' to be applied this can include having children or dependents or being the victim of domestic violence.
311,990 households applied for emergency and temporary housing; 298,430 were deemed to be owed the housing they demanded - yet as stated previously; 2/3rs of these correct claims were denied through delay.
2/3rd of those who claim correctly are denied housing.
Of the 298,430 households who were deemed homeless after they asked for housing; only 104,510 got temporary housing. For a rate of 0% denial; the rate of perpetual delay was 66% -
On any given night 3,900 people sleep rough. Out of 38,000 homeless people this may seem like a small amount. 1% - yet this 1% changes every night. In a year the average homeless person spends 120 nights in women's shelters and emergency shelters. 240 nights with families and partners who are often abusive; and 4 to 5 nights a year on the street.
Shelters are subsidized to reduce the cost to the homeless person to an average of £15 yet our source (click here) says. "I used to work construction; my passport was stolen, by CCS card was stolen, my passport was stolen, there are rats and fucking drug heads, you are cleaner on the streets".
White men aged 40 are most likely to be sleeping rough tonight.
DLUHC reports that black and white ethic groups sleep roughly more prevalently than their respective ethics groups in permeant housing. Asian culture sleep roughly less proportionately.
Join out campaign to publish the long term empty homes register here with project ORCA.
On any given night the amount of poeple sleeping rough is 3,900 - this figure fell sharply during COVID and vaires widly due to central government authority.
On any given night 600 women sleep rough. There are 66,000 homeless women. There is no data to support - and of the total 390,000 homeless people 150,000 are given a priority need prevention duty status as they have children. Many women are deemed intentionally homeless and never offered housing again if they refuse the offers of housing. The government offers housing based of availability not location; and you can click here to see a woman deciding if she wants to move to Birmingham after staying with her partner in Brighton. She was threatened with being labelled "intentionally homeless" if she refused the offer.
Of the 66,000 homeless women in the UK; half have been assessed as being homeless due to domestic abuse.
Further; it is speculated that all 600 women that will sleep rough tonight choose this as safer option than Emergency Shelters that are overwhelmingly male. Further it is speculated that homelessness causes domestic abuse, just like domestic abuse causes homelessness with sexually violent men preying on the woman's insecure tenure status.
Women who rent may prevent homelessness by selling sex to the landlord or lettings agent.
Women who are homeless prevent rough sleeping by selling sex to tenants and mortgage holders.
A MumsNet survey suggests that 200,000 women disclosed having unenthusiastic or non-consensual sex for the purposes of discounting or avoiding rent payments.
A Womens Aid Survey suggests that 70% of all domestic abuse victims are without secure tenure and homeless by legal definition; of this survey we have used a different source (here) to speculate how many of this 70% have been the victims of actual rape.
Fuel poverty causes homelessness by forcing people to choose between heating and rent, leading to arrears and evictions. Cold, unliveable conditions push some to leave their homes, while rising energy costs make housing unaffordable. (source)
When homeowners too face high energy costs it leads to them not being able to afford energy improvements upgrades as they cannot build up the capital expenditure. A 'White Paper' in 2018 inferred that government would ban landlords from renting D or below EPC graded properties to tenants; but plans were scrapped in 2024 and it still remains legal to let houses that are E and above to tenants; yet short fallings like having rooms without a radiator or lack of double glazing are a hazard according to Environmental Health and councils may order landlords to have work carried out or face a fine. When tenants report cold properties to the council landlords often evict the tenant.
'Excessively Cold' housing causes poverty.
Excessive Cold is the term for a Housing Policy Health Hazard:
Defined under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) as a Category 1 Health Hazard, indicating a severe risk to health.
Poorly insulated homes or inadequate heating systems are overwhelmingly an issue with rental properties; 80% of the under insulated house are rented.
5.2 million homes in the UK are currently not insulated, increasing the vulnerability of residents to cold conditions.
Individuals living in substandard housing face higher energy costs, leading to financial strain and an increased likelihood of eviction or homelessness
