MAMA IGLOO has thick walls; as thick as your main house at 300mm; the only difference is we use 100% insulation to build out this thickness. That is a whopping 12 times more warmth than most insulated houses have. PAPA igloo is made of 200mm insulation; or 8 times as much - and BABA iglo is made of 100mm so 4 times as much.
Less cold, means less bills to worry about. Furthermore there is less carbon to worry about and as a bonus there is less noise which is why we have secured partnerships with many charities that tackle the sensory overloads associated with autism.
You may prefer an extention over a Garden Room but I would like to warn you of the high labour and material cost of such a project. Its a big commitment and when you're in it - you're in it; and there is no turning back. The risk of legal disputes is high. Our igloos are small, tall and lightweight meaning if there if you are not happy we can take it back; less legal stuff also means less risk for us; this means we can reduce margins knowing we won't run into any non-paying customers - a big issue in construction at the moment.
We use polyisocyanurate on the inside; for its large size and fire resistant qualities; we then adhere extruded polystyrene on the outside with various densities of expanding urethane glues taking advantage of its water proof qualities. Leaning our technique from Strava International - we then ram rebar steel through the foam to make it really strong. This was we have no gaps in the foam, nothing for air to get through and making it really airtight like this makes it super warm and superlong lasting; no rust, no rot.
We then cover it in a thin layer of fibreglass mesh to strengthen it further and a lick of epoxy to protect it from UV damage.
It's a perfect way to increase warm residential square meterage at low cost. There is no planning necessary; all the designs have been preapproved and have a licence of legality.
Our design rhetoric was "think of the children" ; work from home is hard on the kids; its noisy its stressy - and its unfair on them to burden them with it; heating the house during the day in winter is really costly. This source shows that being unable to pay the bills is the main motivator behind divorce. (source) shows that when men work from home; they neglect their physical health.
Work from homers are more likley to revice backpain from the uptick in sitting and downtick in walking.
PAPA IGLOO is just a name for the group of preapproved, pre-costed, predesigned single person use home offices. Like nature all forms are for different needs. Firstly: Matthew Igloo takes up very little of your valuable permitted development zone. When used with a desk there is little need for this foot-space and is actually far more comfortable to rest your legs on a wall sloping outwards. Here we have depicted Matthew Igloo without its front wall used as a gym space with a lot of area at waist hight you get the space where you need it; and the leftover space can be spent on that extension you are planning.
Mark Igloo is the back to basics igloo; the labour cost for this is far less; but this shape of igloo doesn't perform as well as the igloo shapes; heat escapes from the vertices; this is your budget design and the one you are most likely to not want windows on.
Luke Igloo is a compromise between an domed shaped igloo and a boxy shed. This means its relatively easy to build but does have the reduced surface area to volume ratio; this means there is less material; is built at a low cost but importantly there is less material for the heat to escape from.
Luke Igloo & John Igloo both have large panels covered with shiny Mylar on the inside; reflecting the heat radiation back to the centre; this is one of the reasons a traditional igloo is so warm. John Igloo is the simplest and most buildable version of a desired dome shape. All panels are regular polygons.
Shepard Igloo may look complicated; but look closer and you will see that each panel is a Kite shape; this means that we cut a rectangle down in the diagonal; chamfer one side and then chamger the other side - there are surprisingly little off cuts which makes this a very affordable build from a purley materialistic perspective.
But if you want to go all the way; Zenith is the purest igloo; with a 4m tip this is the tallest igloo you can have without needing to apply for planning permission. Each row of facets is slightly different however; but building this igloo will be the talk of the town and the object of the neigrbours envy. Its not just stylish; Zenith Igloo reflects all heat radiation back to a small vertical line; has a low surface area to volume ratio to resist conduction; and convects heats very efficiently through the natural stack ventilated chimney. A large 10m2 area plan is more than enough space to work from home in an important space, doing important work; the perfect background for a high performance video call.
More than 50% of people work from home; Even though 44% of people have a Garden Shed - 81% have a privately owned garden; only 0.1% of households have an insulated garden building.
What can be asserted without evidence can of course be dismissed without evidence; however I believe that there is a correlation between working from home and mental health and self care concerns. What these stats do not show is the rise of the PC or personal computer; and the stress and worry that comes with being approachable by your employers at any point.
PAPA igloo is an old solution to a new problem; in the Medieival age outhouses for work were ubiqiotuous with the Potter Family having a pottery in their garden and the Smiths having a smithy right outside. Lets get things back to normal.
Of course there was a sharp uptick in WFH in lockdown. However total amount of people travelling to work is falling. To any employer having staff work from home reduces overheads and is being encouraged and adopted.
Before covid companies granted staff company cars and claimed back the benefit in kind against the tax liability. However from anedotal research when companies hire for work from home; they only grant a company laptop with tracking software. To keep staff turnover low companies should grant company garden rooms; moveable and lightweight.
To qualify for work from home tax relief you must be working at least 50% of days from home; or have your company agree that you are in the contract; or just by writing a referal letter.
This means that for the other 50% of the working week; and of course on the weekend the PAPA igloo can be something else.
We recommend that it be treated as a gym or self care space; playing music perhaps in its noise cancelling walls.
What you do is up to you.
Whether the rise in autism diagnoses reflects an actual increase in neurodevelopmental difference or stems from evolving diagnostic frameworks remains contested. Nevertheless, the data show a significant portion of today’s youth—particularly girls—are being identified with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) at increasingly earlier stages (Russell et al., 2022). One of the critical challenges in identifying ASC among girls lies in the phenomenon of social masking—a process whereby individuals learn to imitate neurotypical behaviours in order to conform socially (Hull et al., 2017). Girls may develop advanced compensatory techniques, such as echoing social scripts or mirroring peers, which obscure clinical indicators and lead to late or missed diagnoses (Dean et al., 2017). Additionally, while boys with autism often express intense interest in niche or technical subjects (e.g. trains, numbers), girls' special interests—such as animals, books, or celebrities—tend to align with normative cultural expectations and are therefore more easily overlooked (Gould & Ashton-Smith, 2011).
This invisibility is compounded by the nature of female friendships, which may appear functional but are often shallow or one-sided. Autistic girls may still experience profound internal disconnection and social fatigue, concealed beneath polite conformity (Tierney, Burns & Kilbey, 2016). A similar misalignment exists in the diagnostic understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Girls with ADHD are less likely to present with hyperactivity and impulsivity, instead displaying inattention, emotional sensitivity, and executive dysfunction—traits that may be misattributed to anxiety or poor motivation (Hinshaw et al., 2022).
This diagnostic gender gap highlights the importance of early, inclusive, and holistic interventions that support emotional regulation, focus, and social autonomy. While the destigmatisation of autism and ADHD has enabled more families to seek help, health and education systems have not adapted quickly enough. The backlog in diagnostic services is acute; as of early 2024, over 172,000 individuals were on the NHS waiting list for autism assessments (NHS England, 2024).
Emerging research suggests that environmental stressors—such as urban density, limited green space, and high familial tension—may play a role in the expression and severity of neurodevelopmental traits (Modabbernia, Velthorst & Reichenberg, 2017). Children from high-stress households, including those experiencing parental separation or economic instability, are more vulnerable to developing anxiety-linked behaviours, with studies linking such stressors to both autism and ADHD symptomatology (Estes et al., 2013; Bick & Nelson, 2016). In these contexts, what is often overlooked is the importance of space—physical, emotional, and psychological—where a child can feel sovereign and secure.
This is precisely where a garden play room, such as the Children’s Igloo, becomes not merely desirable but developmentally strategic. More than a playhouse, the Igloo offers a child-scaled, emotionally contained environment where children—especially those with sensory sensitivities or executive function challenges—can experiment with solitude, creativity, and autonomy on their own terms. For girls, the igloo becomes a retreat from the social surveillance of digital media, restoring a boundary between public performance and private self (Turkle, 2011). For boys, it becomes a workshop and den—a domain for self-directed projects and gentle, non-performative social interaction, such as collaborating on homework via Zoom or building Lego models without interruption. For children with ADHD, having an independent zone to regulate stimulation, rehearse routines, and engage in low-stakes, interest-led activity can significantly improve mood regulation, task initiation, and self-concept (Brown, 2013; Blakemore, 2018).
